Change SSI output

I KNOW perfectly well this exact question has been asked (and replied to) recently, but I haven't been able to retrieve it, so sorry for double posting. I'd be grateful if someone could provide the link.

The issue: How to change the output of SSI stuff like events or calendar, so that the items won't be on a single line, but have line breaks or are presented as a list?
