Hi

Does anybody know if it is possible to upload an image with this forum along with my text. For example if I wanted to past a picture of my dog right here below:

PICTURE OF DOG GOES HERE WOOF WOOF!! :)

Like that.

I am currently using phpbb2 and I am trying to find a forum that can be used as a general "team forum" to post project updates on various jobs...

Eg. and to be able to upload jpegs and files would be really really useful. Anybody suggest anything more suitable?

But for a forum this looks BRILL!!!

I was going to use invision until I discovered it is no longer free to use.

yes you can but you don't have the right permissions to do so. if you head over to the test board you can try it for yourself: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=7.0

If it's a question about your own board, of course you can set the permissions to allow attachments. But if you want inline images, you need to use the image (img) tag to link to wherever you've stored the image (which could be an attachment to another SMF board if that's more convenient than regular FTP).

We have just wasted X hours messing around with phpbb trying to create what we need for our team of designers.

We only want small forum where designers and our clients can come together upload files and upload pictures. Like for example if Zeno is designing one outline for a customer and customer accepts I want to upload the jpeg to the next designer or developer so they know what we are talking about. This was not possible, and then only we found your forum here. So I wanted to find out if we are allowed to adjust it to suit our needs? If it is within the license agreement.

We also wanted to upload files to a communal area. Kind of like a project management system without the extras. Hence all my questions :)

Since one of my forums is a graphics forum where attachments are pretty well fundamental, I'd say SMF is perfect for that!

Think [Unknown]'s response here should answer that question to your satisfaction:

The license allows you to modify the software, and to redistribute your modifications.  We wouldn't dream of disallowing that!  You just can't redistribute the software pre-modified.

But I'm guessing you'll have seen that by now anyway! :)

Hi Peter

Thanks for clarifications, it does seem to be just what we are looking for. We would like to enable some kind of file attachment system so that we can have a place to keep files to exchange, such as psd files and html files etc.etc. I have not explored it enough to find out if that is possible yet.

Cheers

It's possible, it's built in and you can assign your own permissible file extensions, maximum file size and user groups (for both uploading and downloading/viewing) to it.

Hi Peter :)

So now we don't even have to modify this ourselves!! Seems to be a really all singing and all dancing product. Now I am wondering how or why it is free? :) So I wonder if this is now second in terms of ability and stability with V bulletin and the now chargable IVB.

Thanks Peter for pointing this out, now I know what to look for.

See why free is better! :)

Nope, IMHO it's better than that. So when I have to use other forum systems (as in read/post, not install), I really miss the things this one gets right!
