I have been running SMF for about 4 years now. I started with 1.0 I believe and am now running 1.1.4 this is a little about my experiences with SMF as a whole.

In my first year I was a complete php noob. (still no expert by any means) I downloaded SMF, read the documentation which was extremely easy to understand and began installing my first SMF site. It went flawlessly and I began to customize it to suit my needs..

In my second year I was doing all modifications by hand. I just didn't like using the package manager and not knowing what was going on or what I was changing. I also began to do my own custom changes here and there.

During my first and second year the people here and at tiny portal where simply awesome. Unknown helped me a lot with a few things and everyone else was just as helpful. The team at tiny portal were also extremely helpful. Sure I made mistakes, but there was someone there to help me when I needed it. Every time!

Now in my third and fourth years everything has been done by my hand, doing themes, moving things around and just basically having a ball with it.. So far so good.. ;D

I would like to point a couple more things out that I learned...

1) Montecarlohosting.net simply rocks! My site is up more than 99% of the time easily.. matter of fact I would be so bold as to say 100%

2) My site has NEVER been successfully hacked.. Although attempts have been made it's never happened since the switch to SMF 4 years ago.

3) My users love the simplicity of the design and hate it when I change anything.. LOL!!

4) There has ALWAYS been someone around to help me when I needed it..

Now I have been messing with computers and the internet back when hacking into an Amiga was the thing to do. I have used every thing from a radio shack TRS-80 to a custom built 9,000 machine. I was designing and playing with webpages when ya did it all with DOS because windows didn't exist. We have come a long way... SMF is a brilliant product produced by brilliant people and anyone that says different just really has no idea what they are talking about in my opinion.

So I just want to say thanks to the SMF team for doing such a great job! Don't let the negative comments bring you down (you know who they are coming from) just always know that the people that do know what goes into this product truly appreciate everything you all do.

Thanks!

Positive thinking as Gargoyle  ;D I am big fan of SMF
I moved to SMF from phpbb two years ago and in these two years I learned so many things from SMF and its team.

Now in my free time I am trying to help members of community on base of my experience to reduce load of support.

At the end I repeat line of Gargoyle

Don't let the negative comments bring you down. We are always here to support SMF team and project.  :)

SMF deserves a lot of thanks. Seeing how much time the devs put into SMF is crazy. I also love the SMF templating system. I'm almost on my second year of SMF... Its fun watching it grow and become better and better.

I think its great that the community tries to help eachother too. Less work for the true SMF heros. Something I like about SMF? Well its fast with useful features.

As a sidenote: The whole team is friendly too. If they weren't, I would have been banned ages ago. lol :P
