No \'reply\', \'new topic\', etc. links legible in Safari on Mac

Firstly,
thank you all so very much for the SMF forums, templates, and well, everything!  Secondly, thanks for the support too!

Unfortunately I have a problem.

I did try two other templates, but they both had the same problem.

I'm using the Scribbles template (which is a great visual arrangement for unsophisticated users, such as most of the ones that will use my board).  On Safari on 2 different Mac machines at different buildings, the links for "reply", "post topic", "post new poll', etc. do not appear.  Instead there are little question marks in their places.

On my windows machine the Netscape version reads fine, but the internet explorer shows typed words for the links, inside broken image boxes but no graphic buttons (but at least this is a workable situation).

I downloaded a set of button graphics ("Orangeena"), and uploaded them as individual gif files (not as a folder) through my FTP program into the Themes/Scribbles_11/images/buttons folder, and superstitiously into the Themes/default/images/butttons folder hoping that if the links appeared as buttons, they would show up in any browser.

The links are still just showing up as;
Internet Explorer - broken image boxes, but with the words of what the link does, so it functions alright
Netscape - highlighted words as with a 'normal' link
Mac Firefox - highlighted words as with a 'normal' link
Mac Safari - question marks attached to a link (no words, so this does not function to let people know where the link goes).

So, Question 1)  will showing buttons for these links get the buttons to show up on Safari and Internet Explorer as graphics buttons?

Question 2) What do I need to do to properly upload and 'turn on'(?) the graphics buttons.  What I've done doesn't seem to be working.  Please use small steps and as many words as you have patience for so I can get this figured out.

Alternatively, Question 3) If I'm not even close to a solution, is there some other solution to make the links show up as highlighted words in Safari?

Thanks again,
Brice

Hi Brice and welcome to SMF.

Is the the Scribbles theme or the Scribbles 2 theme? I tested it with Scribbles and it looks ok here with Internet Explorer.

Go to Admin->Current Theme and make sure you don't have Show buttons as images instead of text checked.

Yes, that worked :)

I'm using Scribbles, not Scribbles 2.

I am happy with this solution, unless you want to walk me through getting the graphics buttons to show up.

Either way, thank you very much!

Cheers, Brice

FYI - Internet Explorer now works properly.

Safari on Mac still shows question marks at the end of each individual board name and each individual post topic name on that board's page.  However, Safari on Mac does now show words corresponding the links to individual functions (post new topic, etc.), so the question marks are slightly mysterious, but not interfering with proper functions.
