Hi all.

I'm working on a brand new site for my MMO org, and am looking at Mambo and SMF (I love it SOOOoo much better than phpBB).

Also need either Comminity builder (I'm guessing that's Mambo Community Builder, (found at hxxp:www.mambojoe.com/ [nonactive], if not, can I have a link?) or some other method of extending profile information...  such that it'll be easier to keep lists of people who can fill specific roles such as "Ice Miner", "PvPer", etc (We're playing a space based MMO called hxxp:www.eve-online.com/ [nonactive]).

Reading through these forums, it seems there are issues with the Mambo/SMF bridge and CB.  Is there a better alternative (even if it means a different BB, but NOT phpBB), or have the issues with CB been cleared up?

Thank you,
John M. Adams

the only problem that I have found was keeping the users synched. It is easy enough to fix.
Just add Community builders syncusers function to the end of the SMF bridge registration code.
Currently I have SMF - Mambo - Community builder, and Coppermine all using the bridge registration process and all appear to work fine. I have it on my test site that you can feel free to play at.
www.cyprex.biz.
The only issue I have yet to overcome, is that once the bridging is done the user has to use a .png file as an image upload. No other format works.

Cool... so the extra user details can be accessed through both Mambo, and SMF?

How would one edit their details?  Through Mambo, SMF, or the Bridge?

And for the uploads, I'm guessing that's Avatars?  No biggie there... can you still use JPG if the avatars are selected from the SMF avatar directories?  In Eve, you can "capture portrait" other players, so I capture the in-game portrait of all new recruits to the corp, resize, and upload.  I *could* do PNG if I need to... but that's another step (plus I'd have to convert all the current ones).

One other quick question... do user groups mesh across Mambo and SMF?

Profile management is all done using community builder on my site.
Feel free to create an account and play with the profile. On the test site I have the extra profile fields defined for kite boarders but you can define you profile fields any way you choose.
