Must-have mods

What are some of the must-have or very usefull mods? I know everyone has their own needs and opinions, just want some suggestions on general use mods.

I have about 50 (including some of Karl's) and they're all must haves so I can't really comment

ok, I can recommend all the anti-bot mods to foil the bots trying to register on your forum.  We have caught so many since we had those installed

lol many, it really depends on your definition of 'must-have' or useful.  Useful from an Admin perspective...

karma description mod - users must enter a reason why they are giving good/bad karma and it records who gave it, so that stops all the anonymous negative karma that can happen on forums.  Plus members like to see who and why

visual warning mod is good if you have naughty members.  There is a four step process leading up to banning

custom profile fields mod is hugely useful - adds fields to profiles, posts, registration agreement or all three.  Very customisable.

and of course I find Tiny Portal extremely useful

For fun - gallery, arcade, shop, flashchat and ultimate shoutbox are all good to have


I am using SMF 1.1.4 and all of these work on that version.

I just installed the Karma Description, I see this being very useful.

Now I'm on Custom Profile Field, I also see this as an indispensable mod.  the only issues I'm having is since I'm using a template other than the Default; I have to go in and manually do a lot of changes. A bit tedious.

Is there anything you would like to see yourself that maybe you don't know is possible?  Then someone could suggest a mod for you.  There is quite a range available but if we knew what you wanted to achieve it might easier to suggest possibilities

Welcome topic (I modified it to look up in the logs, all the history for that IP, google report for the IP, Domain, email and username  they used and make a post for the Admins to see)
If the applicant has any google history for their IP or username, then the registration will have to personally approved.

Alot of the custom permission mods are pretty useful, depending on your sort of board.

yes bcode permissions is great, noobs cant post links and images, for example -essential if you have a board where kids may gather (you dont want spammers dropping porn images and links)
