Hi you guys!

So I've been having this error for a few months now, but it's sort of come and gone. However, in the last few days it's been coming every few hours before disappearing.

From what I understand, this error is occuring because users are making too many requests of the server. The amount of requests allowed is stuck at 75 000 and resets every hour.

However, we're only getting a minimal amount of users every day (today we only had 11) so I'm not sure where this could be coming from. We do have a blog attached to the site as well so I guess that could be contributing, but again, we're not getting that much traffic that I think it would be a problem.

The error is:

QuoteUser 'smpoIF1ZMHV' has exceeded the 'max_questions' resource (current value: 75000)

I want to contact my host about this issue, but I'm not sure how to phrase the question - do I simply ask them to allow for more hits on the 'max_questions' resource or something? Also, what can I do to reduce the amount of queries on the forum?

Thanks for all your help!

I'd be willing to bet that's referring to database queries, and it's a resource limit that your host as put in place so that you upgrade your plan to unlock more 'questions'.

Is your host a free host?

It's not a free host, but it is quite a cheap host. ;) I'm not actually sure if they have any plans to upgrade to though, as I have an unlimited plan as far as I know.

In that case, I guess I'll just send them a support question with a copy of the error message I got. I'll get back to you if I have any more questions!

Thanks for your help!

Indeed, best to send in a request. Keep us updated, if you would.

just remember unlimited does not exist, there is no such thing as a hard drive or bandwidth that has no cap. you have an oversold host that over time will try to upsell you to a bigger package when you dont need it. you just need a host that is not oversold and you will have no further problems.

So the host got back to me and basically confirmed what we already thought.

QuoteI am sorry for the issue which you are experiencing. The issue is related to the MySQL database. It appears that you are exceeding the concurrent MySQL connections. Therefore, you are receiving this error message.

The maximum number of concurrent MySQL connections per user is 10 and the maximum number of database queries per user is 75,000/hr. This setting is there to ensure that the MySQL database cannot be overloaded with to many query requests. The queries will reset every hour and is kept by user however every time the pages on your site are accessed you are still attempting to make queries to the database server. Because of this even though you are getting errors your script are still accumulating the queries.

If the issue still persists, below is a link that should help, show you how to optimize your MySQL usage: http://www.sitepoint.com/article/optimizing-mysql-application.

I've checked out the link, but it's like reading another language to me! I'm also not sure if it's even possible to move around tables like that when it comes to SMF. Does anyone have any opinion on that?

I'm also still a bit confused as to why we're getting so many requests per hour when we only have about 20 visitors per day. Here's a list of the mods I'm using, so let me know if anything sticks out that looks like it could be causing a lot of requests.

You're probably right, but I think in this case there must be some bug or something which is causing the amount of queries in the first place. We just have to figure out what it is!

the reason is the number of members you have and the number of search engine spiders crawling your forum during a set amount of time. no other way to fix the issue then finding another host or blocking all the search engine spiders which would then end up stop you from getting new members.
