Background color in default theme.

I am very new to this and I was wondering if anyone would tell me which template I need to change in the default theme to change the background color to black. I want to change the background not the tables.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

No template at all!
You need to modify the CSS, it all explains itself in the file. You can download and edit this, or edit it through the forum by creating a copy of the default through Admin > Themes and layout. Once you have done that, click the modify themes tab, and select to edit the themes stylesheet. It updates automatically, so you can see all the changes before saving them .

to explain what alundra is suggesting ... firstly it is never advised to modify the default theme directly should always make a copy and modify the copy.

Now in the style.css you are looking for a tag called body

The core theme is the fallback for all the other themes, if you accidentally mess it up, nothing will work out .

Ok guys and gals after looking into this, and at the risk of sounding very slow about all this (which I am by the way).

I have 2 style.css files listed in the default theme.
They are:

style.css
style.css~

Which one of these is the forum working from?

The one without the ~

the file with the ~ is a backup file. I personally find these so annoying that I turned them off Admin > Packages > Options/settings (last tab) > UNCHECK Create Backup versions of replaced files with a tilde (~) on the end of their names.

however, you really should BACKUP all of your files, just incase something happens

As I said before I am very new to all this. I try to keep a current back up, because I have had a problem or two lol.
