While trying to place a message with an attachment, there was a "hanging" that finished with a blank page, and no posting appeared.  I decided there was an issue and put up a post that worked.

I then attempted to attach an image and got the same return of a blank page, we now have a posting that returns a 404 error 500 error.

I have the same posting up with an embedded url, I just ftp'd the file to the server and linked.  It is fine.

Primary:  How do I remove a posting I cannot get to?

secondary... how do I troubleshoot the upload error.  All was fine 24 hours ago.

A test posting url with attachement:
hxxp:savestockton.org/gripes/index.php?action=post;board=70.0 [nonactive]

After 15 seconds, the freshly posted item url:
hxxp:savestockton.org/gripes/index.php?action=post2;start=0;board=70 [nonactive]

No new posting.

A test posting w/o attachment:
hxxp:savestockton.org/gripes/index.php?action=post;board=70.0 [nonactive]

A couple of seconds later, I have this result:
hxxp:savestockton.org/gripes/index.php?board=70.0 [nonactive]
A new posting is there!
hxxp:savestockton.org/gripes/index.php?topic=233.0 [nonactive]

I make a new posting:  it too is successful.

I add an attachment to the new posting :
hxxp:savestockton.org/gripes/index.php?action=post;msg=466;topic=234.0;sesc=ae1bbe7eecd5a05256716ebef75c5cc5 [nonactive]

I click post and 7 seconds later this page is returned:
hxxp:savestockton.org/gripes/index.php?action=post2;start=0;msg=466;sesc=ae1bbe7eecd5a05256716ebef75c5cc5;board=70 [nonactive]

I try to load the message and get a 404 error page.

by mayor, note the time stamp on testing2 is the same as before the mod was attempted.

Thanks.  I hope I covered it all.

Item of note:

A 404 500 may be displayed, but the forum software increments the views anyway.

example::  "Start with 4 views, get 404 error.  Return and update it shows 5 views."

And this is significant:

Normally if you just "reload" a forum message it will not increment the views unless the message cookie is change by another forum pageview.

When you reload the 404 500 page it will increment.

( btw: my custom 404 says "OOP. I seem to have Burped. Try again, but gentler please.")

(btw: my custom 500 says "OOPS.  I seem to have Burped.  Try again, but gentler please.  Error 500 )

Yeah, that is a good question.  I have tried to delete these messages when they show up, but I cannot find an Admin function that allows fro removal of an item based on it's url or "topic #"

Is there a way to access these outside of the regular forum framework?

I'm lost. What is going on?

Sorry.  I tried to be clear but just made it muddy.

When a post is made, it is good  all can see it.

when an attachment is placed on said post, it will now display a 404 500 error.  The database will increment the "views" count even on a simple page reload.

What can I do to remove the "bad" post?  I cannot access it, It shows as a 500 instead.

original posting that gave a 404  500 error:
hxxp:savestockton.org/gripes/index.php?topic=230.0 [nonactive]

There is a sample posting in a test board done to prove the adding of attachment to a working post will give the 404  500 error.

hxxp:savestockton.org/gripes/index.php?board=70.0 [nonactive]

My 404 error delivers the following text:  OOP. I seem to have Burped. Try again, but gentler please.

Did you recently change servers?

Is your database using iso8859-7? What character set is it using?

The server was recently changed (a month back) from BSD to Centos.  the posting behavior was absolutely normal as recently as the day before.

I can work around the error, the concern is the removal of bad posts.

The character set for the server is standard.. The admin's won't have a response on that till tomorrow.  The setup was perfect until today... not exactly sure what to think.

Ummm. The error code is actually 500  .  My bad on calling it a 404.

Ok, I tried to clarify a few things.  The attachments folder was set for over 100mb, but used only 64mb.

All attachments seem to have been there, one for each post attempt, and 2 instances of the thumb temp were present ...
68_07ULVPhoto_jpg42d1338227a5fa11cdc652351bae343f_thumb.tmp

The uploaded attachments were all incremented properly and filesize is good.

The last attachment posting from before this issue showed is still displaying fine:
hxxp:savestockton.org/gripes/index.php?topic=229.0 [nonactive]

I just tried to repeat this after increasing the attachment folder capacity to 900mb.  Same.

I tried to repeat after removing all other instances of the attachment.  same.

The new uploads do appear in the attachments folder on the server.

In response to the earlier questions:

>>  Did you recently change servers?

We did not make any changes in the database server.

>>  Is your database using iso8859-7? What character set is it using?

The default character set of database server is Latin. The server also support the character ISO-8859-7 (that's for greek).

Please let us know if you have any further queries.
