Is this actually needed?

I was looking in cpanel @ /public_html/Packages/backups which has a whole heap of folders or whatever, 'brown boxes' what are they, package backups or something after each time a new package is added?

Are they required?

I think it is just taking up disc space on my hosting and I feel as though I should just delete them off par perhaps the last one.

Or is it something else?

I don't believe they are needed. They're just useful it you want to uninstall a package and the uninstall fails for some reason. There is an option in the package manager to stop them being created

OK thanks, with my hosting up for renewal I can downgrade my disc space plan then...
