Imported messages do not appear in topics

We recently moved the forum to a new server.  When the dbase was imported, for some reason, the first 254 messages were dropped.  I examined the messages carefully for proper syntax and then imported them into the dbase  I received a success message and the messages appear when browsing using MyAdmin but do not appear in the forum topic.  I have checked the table for errors and flushed the messages all to no avail.  Any idea why the messages are not appearing properly?

Thanks for any feedback.

Update . . . . I exported the dbase just to see if the messages had in fact, been integrated and guess what . . . they're not there.  What am I doing wrong?

Welcome to SMF rustyknutts,

I am not sure if i understood it right, but it seems you have just imported the smf_messages table alone in a fresh site with a fresh table. In order to make the messages show up and work properly, you might need the tables smf_log_topics and other topic related database entries. You may also try importing the database via restore_backup.php which might help you out restoring the database sucessfully.

Thank you for your response.  Sorry for the confusion.  This has really gotten me (a newbie) discombobulated.

After the move, the dbase was successfully imported EXCEPT THAT the first 254 messages were ignored. 5000+ were successfully imported and appeared in their respective topics correctly, (no I didn't examine all 5000).  So, I tried to import the 254 messages using the import facility in MyAdmin as well as running a script.  In each instance I received an error message about syntax.  So, using the "Insert" script in MyAdmin, I filled in each block correctly and inserted the messages (two at a time) and was successful (at least the system SAID I was successful).  The lost messages now appear when I use the "Browse" function in MyAdmin.  They are in the correct order and have the correct attributes.  However, they do not appear in the forum nor do they appear when I export the dbase and examine it with notepad.  The only thing I've done is flush the board.  I have not restarted the server.  Do you think restarting will help?  Do you have any other suggestions?

PS since the board is active, importing the old dbase is not an option since all new posts would be lost.

Just a side note.  The server is on a remote site and getting it rebooted can take some time.

Any Ideas?

Reboot did not cause the messages to appear.  In the last back up of the dbase, the inserted messages do show but still do not appear in the forum.

I am using SMF 1.1.5

Thank you

Just want to confirm. You imported the entire database backup right and not just certain tables?

Go into Admin->Forum Maintenance and run the following:

Optimize all tables to improve performance.
Find and repair any errors.
Recount all forum totals and statistics.

OK . . . I have done the above with no success in getting the messages to appear.

If you want, PM me your forum and cPanel details. I will take a look at this for you.

Greyknight17, THANK YOU for your help.  Your suggestion to repair worked like a charm.  I'll probably be posting other ridiculous questions as time goes by but will try to exhaust all possibilities first.

Best regards . . . . .  :D

No problem. Glad it worked out. I have noticed that after a restore it may act quirky sometimes, so running the repair will usually fix any issues you have.

Topic marked as solved.
