and we want to have a battle record on each user's profile that we can update.
e.g   4-2
how do i do this?

try this modification: Custom Profile Field Mod
SMF 2.0 has a build-in function for creating custom profile fields.

Admin - Core Features - Advanced Profile Fields (must be enabled)

Then Admin - Configuration - Features and Options - Profile Fields.
