"Post as new, when edited" - option

I am missing an Edit and post as new board option, i.e., when you edit a post in a thread, it will treat the thread within the board as if there had been a new post in it.

I realise this is an option that many admins would want to switch off, to avoid people placing their (less important) posts always on top of the thread only by doing minor adjustments to them. In my board people monitor certain data over time, and it would be useful that a thread goes up on top of the board every time it has been updated.

The Edit and post as new option could also be Admin Only, sort of a "semi-stick" option.

Thanks

I agree this could be a useful thing... I'd like perhaps for there to be a tickbox that people can tick ... something like "important edit made, *bump*" or something... which bumps the thread, but uses a "new edit" link to the edited post instead... (with permissions to define who CAN make this happen too ;))
an example would be: David's "Features" post... which I've checked maybe 6 or so times hoping its been updated... but it hasnt... this kinda feature would eliminate that... and will definately be something I look into creating a mod for ;) :D

i think these are all good ideas: to let the user determine whether their edit should be flagged, and a distinct icon to show it's an edited, not new post.

This would have to be a mod; currently, if you edit *the last post* in an existing topic, it will show a (new) icon, *but it won't move to the top.*  This was the best compromise I could think of for everyone.
