Couple converting questions...

I'm thinking about moving from phpbb2.0.11 to SMF. I've been with phpbb for a couple of years now. I was visiting a forum when I noticed all the features it had. When I followed the SMF links and started reading about this Forum I couldn't believe how much was included in this package without being modded to death. So I installed it on my home server and have been playing with it for a couple of days now. Very nice Forum I must say. Quite a bit faster than my phpbb forum too!
Currently I have about 280 users on my phpbb board.  I was wondering if it's possible to just move the users over and maybe a certain set of posts?  Is this going to be a lot of work? I'm pretty handy when it comes to figuring out these kind of things, but I was hoping someone would have a great fix for me.   I looked at the converter, but my current phpbb forum is on a different server than my smf. Any suggestions? Thanks....

you would have to backup your phpbb database and restore it on your local server. Then use the converter.

I'm afraid while it is possible to convert just the members, manually or otherwise, it would definitely be much more involved than simply using the already written converter.

That said, it's not hard to transfer SMF (and most likely phpBB too) between various hosts and domains - is there anything you specifically don't want converted?

Specifically I don't want any posts converted over except for about 3 or 4 topics which contain alot of info that I'd like to keep. I have a gallery integrated with phpbb and Ezportal that I probably won't be able to use. So I'll have to install another gallery that is SMF friendly. Can I just export the Users table and change the prefix, then update my users table with the new users table? Didn't think it would be that simple but it's a shot in the dark lol.

Could I just export my users and some posts somehow and then just back them up to the current SMF Database. Then run the converter?

I'm afraid it's "export" that causes the hold up.  It can be difficult to isolate data in relational databases.

Don't quite understand what your saying. But lets just say screw the posts, can I just get the users?
