How do i edit SMF 1.1.6 template

Good day every one,please i need help in doing some litle editing
to my forum allstudentforum.com.i got some help here but i got
confused.this was what i got
.go to "theme and layout"settings in the admin centre
2.click on the theme you want to edit in the right box
  or
open index.template.php

I  have done step 1 & 2 but got stuck and i couldnt locate the index.template.php also.please any help will be appreciated.what i want to edit on the template is the NEWS:- SMF Just Installed! and to insert my forum logo.

You'll need an FTP to do both, for theme copy the default theme

you can go to news and newsletters to add/delete news

Go to Admin > Current theme > Themes and Layout > Modify Themes

Find your current theme in the list.
Click on "Browse the templates and files in this theme."
Then click on "index.template.php" and make the edits in there.

News are edited in Admin > News and newsletters

Then it depends what you want, where you want, and how you want it edited .

You can do it Nascars way or you can download the files with FTP and edit them with a code editor, and then reupload them again .

Also, never edit the default.

Make a copy of the default and then edit the copy

You can create a copy in the manage and install themes section of the adminCP

From what I see it looks like you may have a ads mod installed. If that is the case and if this error showed up after the installation of that mod please post in the mod support thread that is listed on the mod site.
