Multiple installations of SMF on one database.

I'm sorry if this has been asked before I searched but could not find anything.
How many installations of SMF can be done on one database?
I saw where subjects talked about table Prefixes, is that how multiple installations are done?

That's indeed how multiple installs are done.
For example, forum 1 has the prefix smf_ and forum 2 has smf2_.

Virtually, you can host as many forums on one database as you like.
Wether it is smart to host a whole bunch of forums on the same db is another question though.
For security and performance, I wouldnt do it, especially not if multiple people will then have access to the database, hehe.
But it most certainly is possible, yes
