I've thus far stuck with the method mentioned above and selected different options during upgrade, specifically error log. On the first step, it is hanging up on messages, as noted below.

QuoteExecuting upgrade script 1 of 2.
Executing: "Updating and creating indexes..." (1 of 19 - of this script).

Database Updates Complete! Click Continue to Proceed.
Updating indexes on "messages"... done
Updating indexes on "messages"...
!!
Error!
Server has not responded for 30 seconds. It may be worth waiting a little longer or otherwise please click here to try this step again

If you install it by scratch that is easy then put the dateabase on it to get you ports and boards back

Thanks for the encouragement. I am going to give this another shot, as it is the only thing holding up a large Joomla site upgrade. I'll check back in later this evening. Thanks again.

I have yet to figure out what is causing the problem, as it is still hanging up at the same point in the upgrade. The last attempt at an upgrade was made after removing all mods from the 1.1.8 version and then updating the usual way.

Before I head to bed, I am going to try again the method recommended herein, which will likely result in the same. It has to be an issue with the database.

What is interesting, several months back, I copied this forum to another site, leaving it exactly like it is now and loaded it onto a GoDaddy shared account, where it lives now. The cloned forum was recently upgraded to 1.1.8 and then to SMF 2 without any issues.

The original forum, which is what I am attempting to upgrade to 2.0 now, is on a HostGator Dedicated server with far more power. During upgrade, I can load all other database-driven sites on this server without a problem, whereas the upgrade process says there is no response from the database. The situation is aggravating to say the least.

Any assistance is appreciated. I will continue to work on this end and update as events warrant. Thanks.

Most definitely, as solved topics are not added to the support listings for team members.

Try running the Find and Repair routine on that forum first.

Oops. I may have inadvertently placed it in the wrong forum category!

Thanks.
