Want to make sure...

Before upgrading my 18,000+ member site, I just want to make sure I have all my questions answered.

First and foremost, I have read on here in one post that I don't have to uninstall my mods, but in another post I see where they suggest that yes indeed, MODS should be uninstalled before upgrading.

I am pretty sure that I can just upload the upgrade package and then run the upgrade.php file and once the forum is upgraded to SMF 2.0 ALL mods will have to be reinstalled (provided they are compatible).

Am I understanding correctly that I do NOT have to uninstall any mods and can proceed with the upgrade. (Yes, I have done the backups)...and also downloaded ALL files to my desktop.  So I feel I will be ready to go once I decide to do the upgrade.

Thanks,

Wally

One more question DOES come to mind. Let's say that I run into a problem with the upgrade...can I just re-upload the files (from my desktop) back to the server and revert back to the SMF 1.18 (orignal version).

Is this correct?

You can't go backwards once the database changes are underway. From then on you're committed to RC1. If you stop the process before the database is affected then yes, you can go back to 1.1.8.

Personally I'd get rid of mods. Other people seem to have been fine with them. Up to you.

If you want to feel more safe, maybe you should do a test upgrade first. Clone the forum and put it elsewhere (both the database and php files), then upgrade that first. If everything goes smoothly, you can upgrade the real forum.

And don't forget to backup ;)

Yup, if you have the space for it and want to be sure then a test run is one way to do it. Also to clarify what I said earlier, obviously you can revert to 1.1.8 if you have a backup of the 1.1.8 database. Without that you would be stuck on RC1 though.

Thank you...I didn't do a clone, but I did do a test upgrade on another forum...and all went well. But I think I will uninstall MOST of my mods before upgrading.

Thanks.
