I'm really thinking about switching back to SMF since PHPBB sorta is I believe making by message board run REALLY slow at times. Also takes awhile to load up. Which really is annoying and which really sucks! anywho!

What is the difference from doing a backup via admin panel in phpbb and also backing up my db in my godaddy account?

I am really thinking about switching back to SMF...........

There shouldn't be any difference however if you have a large database you often cannot backup through the admin area due to php memory limitations and so have to do so through the control panel.

okay well that is not a problem! thank you for the reply. i just want to make sure i do everything correctly! my message board is fairly new with 13 members, but i do not want to loose the threads, members, etc... same as what everyone is after.

so doing a backup via admin vs godaddy account is the same thing?

They should both make the backup the same. You won't need to worry about using that backup most likely. As the SMF converter does not modify any of your other softwares data. It simply copies it over to its database and modifies it as needed to fix issues.

what needs to be the first step that i do?

download smf?
download the converter?

when i am installing the smf. will i be using the same db info that i already have for phpbb?
or will i create a new db for smf?

Install SMF. It is generally easiest to have it in the same DB as phpbb. You can then run the converter.

just to be clear. when i say db. i am referring to what is called Host Name via godaddy.

i assume this is what holds all the info?

I installed the smf already, but now what? i used the same db as phpbb, but nothing appears as far as posts go. i know i missed something.
