Hello,
i have same error with encoding.
Original phpBB3 tables have UTF-8 encoding (sure)
After converting process (sucess), converted tables contain garbage.
Tnx

neirons:
Hello and welcome to SMF!
If you had UTF-8 in the source installation, you will probably want to install SMF making sure you set it to use UTF-8 when installing it.

Tnx for quick response,

You suppose, this mistake happened before installation, when i had select  encoding. Possibly. I will try again and make report.

Sincerely,
Your new user

Norv

Please, feel free to let us know how it goes.

It is a shame to me, it was my mistake
Has simply inattentively checked up constructions before transformation

I have one more question. I have transformed really working database phpBB3, but in SMF I cannot be loaded. The wrong password. But I have checked up in a database - they are identical.

Norv

Please correct me if my understanding is not correct: so it worked when setting "UTF-8" in the convert script?

About the password: can you please eventually make sure to clear cookies/cache/saved passwords in the browser?

Yes, it worked when setting "UTF-8" in the convert script. You are absolutely right!

And of course, cookies/cache/saved passwords was tested before I had placed question.
Anyhow, I do digging more deeply in source text SMF. I wish to understand, why there is this mistake.

Question: there is different authorization mechanisms in SMF and phpBB3?

Norv

Thing is, phpBB saves passwords with a different encryption rule. That is why a login fix for phpBB was written. It was also included in SMF meanwhile, however, it seems it is included in SMF 2.0, and not 1.1.x, so if you converted to SMF 1.1.10, then please check out:
[SMF Converter] phpBB3 (for phpBB3).

So, once again thanks for remarkable support! Problems of a login have disappeared.
In addition: now I am familiar with installation and translation with phpBB3.
My last task are avatars and themes from phpBB3. And vualya - there is my new forum board in action.

Norv

Good to hear you got it sorted out!

About avatars, I think they should have been converted. If they weren't, it's a bug in the converter ( actually missing avatars was already reported for the 2.0 converter a couple of days ago, but I haven't found the time as yet to debug it ). I will be looking into it next week however. Could you please confirm you were converting to SMF 1.1.10, or to SMF 2.0 RC1.2?

Themes: I'm afraid there's no conversion possible for us, and attempting to might come against the copyright of the themes. You might find useful to check out the themes site ( http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/ ) in case you would like some of the themes already available for SMF.

Yes, I can confirm about successfully converting to SMF 1.1.10
About avatars and attachments. They are not even copied under /sfm. And after checking convert.php, i not find anything about them.
Thanks about theme link. Themes does not high priority in my board but anyway, I looking for some visual tweaking.

Thank You!

Norv

Sorry for the delay! Can you please run the convert.php file with an extra parameter, like: your_smf_address/convert.php?debug=1
and attach here the file convert_error_log after the conversion, that appears in your forum directory?
