I have read through all the topics dealing with this.  I have asked moderator's to research it for me.  I have tried in different ways to install new smileys to posts and NADA.

The last thing had me log on to a server or something like that but it would not accept my password.  (What password do I use?  My hosting sites, or my forum's).

Okay more info.  I get directed to make my files writable:
Some of the files the package manager needs to modify are not writable. This needs to be changed by logging into FTP and using it to chmod or create the files and folders.
What is chmod?

Anyway, when I try to do this I get a log on screen:
FTP Server: Port:
Username:
Password:
Local path to SMF:

I've tried using different names and passwords and nothing works.

I am SO lost and would genuinely appreciate some help or direction.

Thanks!

"(What password do I use?  My hosting sites, or my forum's)." - for the SMF chmod promot you are facing, it'd be your hosting site's password.

To be honest it's a little difficult to say what to enter for the FTP server and all since these vary depending on the host (if you have access to cPanel, though, then the FTP server would be ftp.yourdomain.com where yourdomain.com is the domain name of your website)

But a couple of general pointers for how to find out these details:

FTP server - try contacting your host. Although as I say, if you have access to cPanel, the server would be ftp.yourdomain.com

FTP Port - 21 is nearly always what you should enter here

Username: Your hosting site's username

Password: Your hosting site's password

Local path to SMF: Without knowing if your host uses cPanel, or something completely different, it's difficult to know what to suggest. With a cPanel host it'd be /home/yourusernamehere/public_html/ (assuming you have installed your forums in your main directory), but if in doubt ask your host.

Although this can be a little tricky at first. Your host will be able to give you these details easily :)

Thank you!  Will contact them now.

You're welcome, hope you get it sorted :)

Hehe yep, it was/is an awesome series.

Nope - NADA.  I called my domain hosts and they walked me through making files writable through their system since we still could not do it on the forum.  I think everything is straight on that end ... but although I see all the new little smileys I would like to have IN both folders (Classic and Default) the choices I have on the forum are still the plain vanilla ones . . .

Nope - It's taking me back to where I need to make files writable.

Are you trying to install Smiley packages through the package manager or individual smileys?

I need help on this issue too.. :(

So should I install a package instead?  How can I install my custom smileys?

Kill Em All

You can do it either way I believe.

I like to install them individually because you get to pick then what you want, but you can install the package too.  Basically it's your preference.
