Hi,

my Error log has about 100 entries since I upgrade to SMF2 rc2, should I reinstall SMF because I have a problem that the users avatars can not show in PMBlog. What is your opinion? If yes, can you advise me how to cleanly reinstall SMF? I have some 12 mod installed. Many thanks.
I am using SMF 2.0.1, curve themes.

Did you create a backup before all of these errors showed up in the error log?

Hmm... Well it depends if you think these are MAJOR errors (like errors that involve the way the forum operates and everything) or not. If they are, I would reccomend a re-install.

What's good, is you can use the same SQL database and when you re-install, it simply refreshes your forum back to the normal settings - All you loose are the modules and themes - You keep all the members and boards, which is a total life saver!

If you think you and your members could live with the errors then that's your decision.

I Really appreciate your opinion. I will think about it if I can stand the small problem.

But what is a reinstall? is it:

- upload all smf 2 rc2 install files again to the ftp and run install.php?

if yes, should I delete all the older files first?

or

should I use the backups in the package folder, there is a zipped file of whole smf system before the first mod was installed, should I just unzip this file to the smf root, so it goes back to the state of the very beginning (without any mod, any theme)?

or

there is a 3rd way?

Many many thanks.

What I would do is go ahead and do a backup of everything, save it somewhere you'll remember (To do a backup: Admin -> Maintenance -> Forum Maintenance -> Database find Backup Database check everything and click the Download button. ) (I'm pretty sure you know this already, just telling you anyway. :P )

Then yes, you can get the install.php file and open it up and do the re-install.

Be sure you use the same database as you did before, that way you won't loose all your members and boards!

Sorry Andrew,

do you know "upload all smf 2 rc2 install files again to the ftp and run install.php? if yes, should I delete all the older files first?"

that is very important, do you know should one delete all the older files before uploading new install files before reinstall? thanks!

Some of the files for modules won't be able to be deleted as you need to uninstall and delete the files to those.

You can just do a complete re-install - Delete all of the old files. All those are for are themes, modules, and some of the .php files. The real importand stuff (Like what you did: The members, boards, etc) are in the SQL database.

Thank you Andrew very much! I mark it as solved.
