I forget where I read it, but the idea is to have a list of all of the SMF-focused forums created by other SMF members (i.e., SMFShop, SimpleDesk, etc.). Personally, I would like to see it just as a great organization tool, and it would help user get the full SMF experience.

Now I know some of you might say that this would take away from the traffic on this site, but i'm not saying that the list has to include other member-created support sites. The list would include sites for mods, packages, and themes that other members have created.

I have seen support topics where all Support members do is link the members to support topics for mods. This list would allow members to easily find forums to get support of their mod, and members could join sites created by their favorite developers.

I was hoping along with the community, users, team and mod developers to have such a "site" or directory built :)

www.planetsmf.com is where we got to, I'd love to have your thoughts and views on what you'd like to see. Its not "official" by Simple Machines or that, but its a gathering place to help share news and such on the SMF ecosystem.

I think some people have created an SMF directory to showcase SMF members. But most of major sites can be found in people signatures that is where I keep my sites listed.

A good idea.  Since under the restructure, it seems more and more helpers and friends of SMF are banned, it might be time to frequent another SMF site before this one is closed.

All bans have been lifted things are looking up.  I expect everything with get back to normal in a couple weeks

PlanetSMF does sound like a great place to be. :) But in addition to that I was thinking of a page on this site that lists to different projects, theme sites, or sites made for mod support that people have made.

In my book marks I have about 4 other SMF sites (SimpleDesk, ProjectTools, SMF-friends, and if you want to count SMFforFree Support) and I found the SA site, Daniel15's site for SMFShop, and now PlanetSMF today alone. I just think it would really help if there could be a page here that lists all the different SMF-focused sites and their purpose. I know there are tons more than the ones that I listed and it would really help if everyone knew about them.

I know people have it in their signatures. ;) But it would just be a lot more helpful if there was a full page with all of the sites listed.

Can you link me to the SMF directory if you know where it is though? :)

Let's see...

smfwiki.net, smfarcade.info, simpleportal.net, tinyportal.net, dream-portal.net, ezportal.com, portamx.com, smfads.com

...and that's all I can think of right now that aren't on your list above.

Ahh, I vaguely remember that.

Well, thanks for that Jorin. I guess it was worth a shot to ask anyways. ;)

You're welcome.

If some sort of SMF Fan site wanted to keep a directory of stuff like this it may not be a bad idea but as for SMF doing it themselves would be like saying go get your support some place else.

Ive got a demo site for my mods and I do offer support there but from SMF's perspective and I as a user is the most trusted place to get all your SMF info is right here.

Arantor

Garou: by and large that's true, however with really big mods (SimplePortal, TinyPortal, Dream Portal, SimpleDesk et al), very likely the best place for support will be their own sites, rather than here.

It's all about being around where there is the greatest concentration of knowledge about the code - SMF's own code, most likely the best people will be here. For SP/TP/DP/SD/etc. the higher concentration of people is likely to be around those sites.

tumbleweed

just a note is all.
There is a storage base for those sort of sites.
smf4me.com -> http://www.smf4me.com/SMF/

Granted the sites need to be added to the database by either the owners of the sites or a rep of the site.
The list is growing.

For those of you that run forums like this feel free to add your site.
For those of you looking for forums like these hopefully the list gets bigger.
