Today. when i try to upgrade from SMF 2.0 RC2 to SMF 2.0 RC3, I got following error...

QuoteExecuting database changes
Please be patient - this may take some time on large forums. The time elapsed increments from the server to show progress is being made!
Executing: "Changing column names." (1 of 39).

Renaming table columns...
!!
Error!
Server has not responded for 30 seconds. It may be worth waiting a little longer or otherwise please click here to try this step again..
Any solution, what to do to solve this problem...

If at first you don't succeed, use a bigger hammer. If that fails, read the manual.

i try it more than 10 times. but every time got same message...

Does that database user have all permissions enabled?

A long shot. Go into phpMyAdmin and repair all tables and optimize them.

Yeah I have all permission regarding database..

I optimized and repaired database but still facing same problem...

One thing quite interesting, On the same server I am also running a web using SMF. Upgradation of that webs's SMF RC3 is successful without any problem. Now i am using same installation file and but finding that error in new web which also located on same server...

Pls provide some help...

Thanks!!!

If you get the same error on both your websites, i suggest you to switch your host or talk to your host about their execution limit. It seems that the mySQL server dies out after bombarding of data for 30 seconds.

As i already replied the upgradation on first web got success without any problem but when i try to upgrade my second web its upgradation giving this error..

Hey there is any way to check actual execution limit of server???

OK... It may be possible that execution time is not so high...

But what should i can do at this moment, or i have to leave the idea to upgrade SMF?? :(

If it is possible to make some change from my side so that i could upgrade it myself...

Plz provide some way to skip this problem... :)

Thanks!!

Well, I can give it a try to upgrade it for you. I'll just check if it works on your server from my side, if not, I can upgrade your database on my server and transfer it over again to yours. Well, it might take a day or so to do all transfer and restore as I am not free all the time, but if you wish, I can do it.

If not, then do the way I do yourself.
- Download your database.
- If you have a webserver somewhere, import the database.
- Run the upgrade on your webserver.
- Save a copy of your upgraded website.
- Restore it on the old server.

That is possibly the solution I see if it no way does it.

Second idea is quite good... I will try it to upgrade it on my local server and then try it at production site...

Till then i have to live with SMF 2.0 RC2 :) :(

BTW Thanks but it will take time to me also...

More comments are invited If any other solution possible...

Thanks and Take Care!!!

EDIT: One more point, i converted my board from IPB 2.0 to SMF 2.0 RC2, Now trying to upgrade it to SMF RC3... Is it possible that this problem persist because of that conversion board..

Don't leave the live site half upgraded. Use your old backup with proper database of 1 version of SMF. It is just not safe from my point of view.. :)

rajanpert

Yeah thanks...

I already take care of this much before and my web is still running with SMF 2.0 RC2 without any problem...

Thanks for support... I will try it out...

After so much debate with web hosting company, discussion with SMF Member. Finally i am able to upgrade my board to SMF2.0 RC3...

It was a mistake from server side, they don't take it seriously, but after too much debate with them, when i try to upgrade my board, My board installed successfully...

Thanks and Take Care!!!
