After writing a 9 paragraph long statement via PM, I realised I made a huge mistake. Luckily I had Google Chrome (skip.skip.skip) Anyway, so I try and find my old PM that I sent, then I realise it didn't save.

Who's smart idea was to set the default as "no"? Whoever it was has some explaining to do.

who's smart idea was not to check it in first place?

Is this a toilet seat argument?  :P

Surely a normal person would not check this. As a normal person would think that very good forum software (which SMF is) would have this feature defaulted on.

flapjack

I doubt it. A normal person shouldn't believe others can read minds and set up things by that.

A normal person would think that developers would have common sense.

Interesting question. Though it's oddly been the default since... pretty much forever... to be off.

I've never used SMF that much until recently, and I've never had to check what I've just sent with PM's until today.

This week is getting worse and worse.

personally, I agree with the setting to OFF. PMs are stored in the database and users never clear their inboxes, let alone their outboxes...   so NOT storing by default is the best option.

Seriously, it's not out fault if you ASSUME something without checking.

Please do not PM, IM or Email me with support questions.  You will get better and faster responses in the support boards.  Thank you.

Jep, that's right. phpBB3 as a example has this option on and so i never looked, that my outbox is 90% full. This is normally by all users the same thing. You don't think about the outbox until it is full and you need to clean it...
