when you search on my forum as a guest or member it don't work.
it either returns no results even if a type a word i know is present in the post
but mostly it will display
QuoteThe database value you're trying to insert does not exist: id_search
this happens on my rc2 live forum and the rc3 test forum even on the default theme.

I'd say it has something to do with the mod you have to validate a user is a person. You know where a person has to type in the letters and a word? I don't have that on my forum and search works fine.

the validation is a core smf feature not a added mod however i will try disabling it and see where we go from there.

update: made no difference

Maybe it's some other mod then. I have just done searches on the 5 forums (RC2 & RC3)I have and they all work fine. Some are just stock out of the box, and some have minimal mods like SimplePortal and Downloads. Don't know what to tell you except it doesn't appear to be an SMF problem.

it can't be much else as my rc3 test forum is a clean install with 1 mod installed and it happens on that forum 2

update: i fixed it on test forum by indexing will try it on the live forum

update 2: indexing fixed it on live forum to not sure why the search feature won't work without indexing

What's indexing? I have this problem too

Bloodsurfer

Having this problem to. Using search index does solve the bug, but for me introduces another: No matter what string I search for, I get lots and lots of unrelated results - dozens of pages in which the searched string is not contained in the shown result messages/threads.

Does anyone else have that problem or a solution?

mint

Yeh same problem here too. It seems to depend on what I search for. Sometimes the results are relevant and sometimes they seem completely random!

adbrad

i also get that happening and yet on this site search works fine

adbrad

quick up date tried the search on a clean install of rc3 with a new db and yet still get the error
The database value you're trying to insert does not exist: id_search
any one know how to fix this

ncrawler99

I've got the exact same problems.

With RC3, I cannot search without an index. I get the same id_search error adbrad posted.

If you turn the index on (Fulltext), you don't get the error anymore, but search results are mostly pages of completely unrelated posts that do not contain any of the search terms exactly as Bloodsurfer has. Typically multi-word searches are the biggest offenders. Results contain neither word.

The above irrelevant search results issue was present probably since the 2.0 RC1 to my knowledge. Search in the 2.0 series never worked well for me. Reading around on the forums here seems to suggest no real solutions to either of these issues. It's certainly frustrating when SMF search returns results for everything but the actual words searched for! :( I don't know how it gets search results containing none of the search terms.
