vBulletin vs smiple machines

I am kinda new to forums and heard alot about vBulletin.
And wanted to know what is the differents between them?

Well SMF and VB are forum scripts, as you know. vBulletin is what alot of other people go for, purely because they think that paid things are better than free. However SMF is great, feature-packed, great community support, etcetera.

There are tonnes of topics here about it, and as Arantor nicely summed up, this is the overall feeling...

To sum up the general feeling around here:

* vBulletin is expensive
* vBulletin ACP is cluttered, SMF's is much less so
* some users seem to equate paid as 'better' and a surprising number of people use SMF as a starter only to move to vB when their forum grows, not because it runs any better or anything, but simply because their forum is now big enough to be making enough to justify the cost - even though vB doesn't perform any better.
* more mods available for vB because of a larger userbase
* lots of 'how can I make it do it like vB' for SMF because of this idea that vB's method is perfect and everything else is inferior (which is wrong)

There's more but that's the general view.

I'll be frank. If you want good commercial forum software, IPB 3.0 is a much better option than vBulletin.

Either way, I'll pick SMF > vBulletin any day. This comes from someone who uses a forum software which isn't listed here at all.
