it has been many years I am running my websites with smf.... today I saw in the errors journal that anti spam ver failed for a user who could not sign up

and I got the idea to try myself to sign up ..... just to see if there is an error with that.

and I found out that the registration process in smf1.1.11 really could be improved in many ways.

e.g.

1. use  Ajax to immediately tell the user if the chosen username has already been taken.

2. use Ajax to tell the user immediately that his password is too short / not complex enough

3. make sure that even if the user uses the back button of his browser, the captcha is refreshed

you know the problem is that if any of those checks fail, the user using IE has to restart filling everything......

1. is already in 2.0.

2. Too short is already in 2.0 as is not complex enough (or it should be, at least)

3. It's not refreshed immediately, I believe you get more than once try on it, though that was considered a bug by one of the devs a while back.

ok This, plus the WYSIWYG message editor........  is not it time we start all upgrading to version 2 ?

Because it's not finished yet. It is officially designated a release candidate because there are still a number of known bugs in it, like the WYSIWYG editor is considered somewhat buggy.

2.0 RC1 was published last year I believe, 2.0 RC1-1 and 2.0 RC1.2 were patches last spring/summer, 2.0 RC2 last November, 2.0 RC3 this March.

So you want a group of volunteers to promise when they're going to find the time to fix the bugs?

No, never has been any promise of when things will get done by, because as I said, everyone's a volunteer, and some of the bugs are very tricky to fix.

Liam.

38,000 posts now Arantor, wow :/

I can pretty much asure you that it'll be done by 2050 though, hopefully alot earlier... ;)

Arantor

*shrug*

I should hope it would be done by 2050 since it won't work properly without a rewrite by then anyway.
