Trying to import an existing vB 3.8.4 installation into SMF 1.1.11

The error I receive running convert.php is
Notice: Undefined variable: dbname in /home/classicj/public_html/smf/convert.php(407) : eval()'d code on line 1

Notice: Undefined variable: tableprefix in /home/classicj/public_html/smf/convert.php(407) : eval()'d code on line 1

Sorry, the database connection information used in the specified installation of SMF cannot access the installation of vBulletin 3. This may either mean that the installation doesn't exist, or that the MySQL account used does not have permissions to access it.

The error MySQL gave was: Incorrect database name ''

The paths to both databases is correct:
/home/classicj/public_html/smf
/home/classicj/public_html/forums

I'm wondering if convert.php assumes a default "vb_" table prefix because that's not what I'm using. Anything else I should be looking for? It's frustrating to fail right out of the box.

Welcome, SMF is definitely worth it, so don't worry!

After reviewing what is actually in the file(s), I noticed that a db_prefix or database name are not actually specified. I will step back and let someone who's done this before handle it.

It looks like the vbulletin config file might have been not found by the converter. The config file should be in vbulletin's folder > inc > config.php, if I remember correctly.

Can you please verify if there is such file there? Does it start with <?php and end with ?> ?
Also, you may want to check, just in case, that you're using the correct version of the converter: if you installed SMF 1.1.11, the converter for 1.1.11 should be used, if you installed SMF 2.0 RC2, then there's a specific converter for this one. (Downloads > Converters)

I, Brian

Just had this error, but I hadn't realised the SMF install and the vbulletin to convert must be resident in the same database.

Hopefully correcting that should help. :)

Actually, they shouldn't, necessarily. But if that helped, good to hear! I'll keep it in mind for other cases.
