Is they a way to get SMF to connect with other SMF sites.. In that let's say I have 5 SMF site, I want when a person signs up on one site it gives them access to all.. Kinda like Facebook Connect,,

not easily....   if they are all on the same server and can access the same database, then you can use the multi-forum mod.

You could try the openID endpoint code that was posted here a little while ago, and then enable your users to activate accounts on OpenID (this would not auto-create accounts, but if a user has an account on one of your sites,  the account info would be portable)

but, basically.... if the sites are on different domains, on different servers, it would be incredibly difficult.

Basically there is a new one created by JohnCCCC. I am not sure whether he will packaged this or not. You can also search for multiple forum or shared forum.

I have created a mod similar to this but it is not complete and I have referred it to feline where PortaMX is now in charge of developing the sub forums mod now. I am not sure when it will be released though I have the access to test it.

I have something, but the security depends on secret keys with data added hashed in sha1 then base64 with more less secure content added to verify the sha1 hash. I don't think this is a real secure way in doing this, so I am unsure about sharing any content at this time as to it may lead to compromised sites. Plus I don't want to hear my site was hacked because of your mod, I just feel it is not secure enough right now.

Does anybody know what type of encryption is good for secret keys? Maybe I am going overboard, but I know sha1 is not bulletproof and all security goes out the door with brute. One of the major problems is having to display a sha1 hash of the secret key mixed with data in the HTML source. This is the security risk, if someone breaks the sha1 hash they have access to every user account on the forum.

The mod works though, sites don't even have to be on the same server or database, just it is the security aspect I am concern with.

Indeed. All must be in the same server especially domain and databases.

You can see the test sites of Shared Forum Mod in http://s1.qom.my, http://s2.qom.my and http://s3.qom.my, http://s1.ahrasis.my. It is actualy only one forum with one database actually but all categories, members etc can be shared or different. Forum can also have different name, themes and allowed to be access by the same or different membergroups.

Again, I am not sure when it will be release but that it is the best and closest thing that is coming now.
