I want to show recent topics/featured topics on my frontpage

how do i make recent topics appear on my frontpage?
I do not mean recent posts, cos I can have !00 recent posts from one topic. so I want a variety so that I can show recent topics on my frontpage.

Also how do I choose topics that I like to be displayed on my frontpage

Is there a button that says "Remove"?

Then...go into the SP control panel and remove the block from there.
