I am a newbie administrator of a Simple Machines Fourm. I am not receiving email notifications when members post to my site, even though I have enabled that option. I have looked up help and tried what is mentioned there, but still can't get it to work. Anyone have the same problem, and if so, how did you overcome it?

Thanks,
Robyn.

Hi, Robyn! Welcome to the forum and, of course, SMF!

How did you do this?

If you go to each board and click "Notify", at the bottom, does that do anything, for you?

rryman

Yes, I went to each Board and selected Notify.

I have also done the following:

1) I have enabled notification through my profile.
2) I have checked my Spam folder and they are not being sent there.
3) I have allowed the URL in my browser preference so it won't be blocked.
4) There is nothing in the "error log" to indicate why.

kat

Hmmm... Curious.

This is a shot in the dark, this.

Just humour me, with this, coz it might just do the trick.

Try going to Package Manager>options.

In there, "Only the standard files are writable." will already be selected, but it might not be that way, in reality.

Hit "Change file permissions" and wait, a while, whilst that propagates through and see if it makes any difference.

what type of email server is your forum setup to use? admin -> server settings -> feature configuration mail type. not all servers support php default, you may need to try smtp. do any other email functions on your forum work?

I am not sure that file permissions have any effect in this, but it cant hurt to verify they are set correctly anyway.

kat

Yeah. Long-shot, as I said.

I was checking that something like notify.php wasn't write-protected.
