spam on first day of installation

i am receiving lots of spam on first day after installing SMF on forums.

Can you tell me which mod i shall install ? to stop spam, please tell in detail step by step.

Being honest, I don't think your choice of registration questions is the best





Choose a set of questions that relate to your forum content, rather than something a forum-bot can easily evaluate.

As for preferred antispam solutions, check out the search box up top. It's been discussed thousands of times

AFAIK SMF not accepting 0 as answer, and bots can solve math questions try something like

What is the name of this site?

no...  as good as forum firewall is - it is not a must and it is not something which a brand new admin should install, since a misconfiguration will lock you out of your own site.

I really wish users would learn to use the search...  or even read a few topics... or even (gasp) the manual.
Spam is an ongoing problem for every site. There are many methods to combat it, but you need to do some research so that you understand what you are doing.

You have to remember, the Americans tend to misspell common words like "behavior"

Personally I agree with Kindred that FF and BB are not good mods if you are new to being a forum admin. One misconfigured setting and you lock half of your audience out without knowing it, plus the logs give the impression you are being inundated with attacks when you are not.

Think he would be much better off with something like Stop Spammer and httpBL to start with, plus some decent questions of course....

well, BadBehavior+HttpBL is a great mod, along side Stop Spammer.

It's Forum Firewall that I caution users about.   It's a GREAT mod... but you have to UNDERSTAND how and what it does - and its not necessary for most sites.

However, for new forum, intelligent QnA is more than enough , you can have question like :
"What comes after first ... "Sec...." (type remaining part of word)"

Answer is ond .

Well, for starters, the screening questions you have will do nothing to stop them -

Type the letters shown in the picture:
What is 1 + 1:
Are you Human:
What is 15 + 17:
Spell 0 in english:

As far as the spammer registering, go to Admin approval now and don't approve names that look like spammer names. They are pretty easy to recognize, here's some real spammer names from another forum I can get into that is infested -

After a short wile you can tell which are spammers that are trying to register.

I don't have this problem so I can't recommend a mod, somebody else already has though.
