many mods wont install

i am using the latest smf and when i try to install a lot of the mods, it keeps saying test failed on a lot of the mods when it comes to doing something with the index.php in the default template.

I have tried about 6 or 7 mods, but dont want to post queries in each mod section if it is something to do with the way I have set up my smf instalation.

could anyone help.

if you have other mods installed some mods may fail as they would have conflicting code. but since you dont tell us which mods you have installed, or which mods fail and which exactly files it is failing on we cant tell you much of anything. also when a mod fails on a file usually you have to manually edit that file to apply the changes.
