I have moved to a new web host, and have deleted all my stuff, including SMF, from the old site. Periodically I get emails from someone called hxxp:carrierzone.com [nonactive] (who are these people?) sent to my old email address, which will remain live for a short time, saying:
QuoteThere has been a problem with the database!

This is a notice email to let you know that SMF could not connect to the database, contact your host if this continues.
Well, doh!, the database doesn't exist any more, nor does SMF on that site, so why am I getting these? More to the point, how is some external site able to probe my SMF database, assuming it existed?

I still get notifications, from my old host, about my backup having succeeded. (A cron-job I set up).

I haven't been with them for four years.

Nothing to worry about, Jeff.

Just your old host being daft. ;)

sounds like you should contact your old host just to make sure your forum is not still up there, just to be on the save side and that could stop the messages too.

Revisited this thread because I am still getting these spam messages from hxxp:carrierzone.com [nonactive]. No point in contacting my old host to see if my database is still there - because I know it isn't since I deleted it!

This must be something SMF is responsible for setting up, and nothing to do with the host, since once or twice I have had genuine messages from them regarding my new host. So if SMF set it up, there must be something SMF can do to unset it.

As for disregarding these messages, they are spam and very annoying.
