Please can someone send me some instructions on how to install smileys.  I only set up my forum last week and prior to this I have no knowledge of this kind of thing.

My assumed knowledge is ZERO.

Does anyone have an idiots guide?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Jay

Find a smiley package you prefer on the MOd listing page.

install in in the Package Manager

goto Admin > smileys and set them as the forum default smileys.

Thanks for your help.

This is driving me nuts. I've installed the package in the package manager but can't get the smiley to work.

I go into admin and select Features and Optios, Smiley's and I think I'm setting them as my default yet the still don't appear.

Any suggestions?

Is your smiley directory writable?  If it isn't, they will never show up.

He's new to this and didn't know what the Package Manager was, so I'm pretty sure he's not going to know the difference between 666 and 755 for the folder/file permissions.  But, I could be wrong

It seems to me it's important to find that out.  I understand what you are saying, I truly do but lets cut to the chase.  It does him no good if the directory isnt writable.

what I was meaning was, when asking him, you may want to also give instructions on how to check.  Otherwise he's just going to reply "how do i do that?"
