I was under the impression that "Polling" can be open to everyone, that is Registered Members as well as Guests.
Unfortunately, over 1300 persons tried to poll but failed. However, I found it out because only one bothered to complain.

Is this the way it is??  Guests can not vote in Polls?
Can I do something to make it possible for Guests to vote in Polls??
It will be nice if they could.

» Administration Center » Permissions » General Permissions

or add
?action=admin;area=permissions;sa=modify;group=-1
at the end of your index.php?

on guest u have to modify its permissions;
there you will see a way to have guest vote in polls option.

example like what will be shown [depending on your theme]
Quote
Polls
   View polls
   Vote in polls
   Post polls
   Add poll to topics
Any topics:
   Edit polls
Any poll:
   Lock polls
Any poll:
   Remove polls
Any poll:

I did what you suggested and created an error.

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '?' in /home/    /smf/index.php on line 352

As you suggested, I added the line AT THE END.

Obviously that was a mistake.

NOW:
I deleted my previous entry, AND Re-Entered the suggested line.

This time NO ERROR.

However, as before VOTE IN POLLS is restricted to geristered users only.

This permission allows a (registered) user to cast one vote. It doesn't apply to guests.

Either the line I added does not work (wrong text) or something else is wrong.

I am disappointed that there is NO concrete answer to this.

Going to Permissions --> Guest ---> click on Modify

A new window opens.  THERE IS AN OPTION CALLED "POLLS".

View Polls (Clicked)
Vote in Polls (Clicked.

ALL other questions (not clicked).

VOTE IN POLLS: I clicked it, because I would like my visitors to participate in polling.
However. My action is meaningless because if you open the details it says: This permission allows a (registered) user to cast one vote. It doesn't apply to guests.

Is this an accidental mistake????
Why Asking if the answer is NO??

IS is possible to correct this (obviously) mistake and make the decision of the Admin stand???????

i think i miss understood you and you miss understood me.

when i mean this:
?action=admin;area=permissions;sa=modify;group=-1

i mean in your website

www.your website here.com/where-your-forum/index.php?action=admin;area=permissions;sa=modify;group=-1

GeorgeT

I am lost:

How do I change this

http://www.orchids-world.com/smf/index.php

To this?

http://www.orchids-world.com/smf/index.php?action=admin;area=permissions;sa=modify;group=-1

Where do I add the "code"  ?action=admin;area=permissions;sa=modify;group=-1

index.php file??????? At the beginning?????  At the End ???

Is it just for me, added by hand to be used only once????

regards

George

I asked a "pro" friend to check it.
Now I know that it can not be done.
The program has been set up, on purpose or accidentally, to prevent unregistered persons from participating in Polls (Voting).

The suggested URL link (not an addition to the code).

www.your website here.com/where-your-forum/index.php?action=admin;area=permissions;sa=modify;group=-1

leads to Admin Login. Does nothing more than that.

I asked a friend to check it out. What I would like to do, can not be done.
The program has been set up in a way that prevents unregistered users to participate in Polls.
