How to give read-only rights to post count based membergroup?

I'm setting up a new forum.

The idea is to let new members post 25 times to try out if they like the community, after which I ask a contribution to continue posting.

Members who chose to stay a guest reader would therefore need to get into a post count membergroup after reaching 25 posts and where they have read-only rights.

I tried this out with setting this group to Guest permission, but the test account I made  can keep posting after reaching 25 posts?
I suppose once registered a member can always keep posting by default?
Is there a way to circumvent this?

I was thinking to set that group to moderated posting, but then the members will be able to post but won't see their posts. Confusing for the member and a hassle for mods.

Any other options available?

Thank you.

There are options available. After setting permissions for a group , you can select that for your boards but one problem which you will face is that you will have to manually change the group of the members who wants to continue posting. For that purpose, create a group and set it to "Requestable" so that members can request them after 25 posts.

Hi! Thank you for the fast reply.

I thought to have solved it by setting the registered users permissions to same as guest (read only) but that only works if I manualy move the test account with 25+ posts out of the default usergroup I made for new registrations. Found out by reading the manual that post-count based permissons get overruled by non-post count based permissions.

Looked around in the settings, but not used to this software I'm lost on how to set permisson to post only 25 times for the entire board?
I'm used to work with IPB, vB &phpbb, I apologize for being confused about smf features  :P

I plan to manualy move members to the paid group anyway,  as it is a group restricted to only 250 subscriptions.

Thank you!

What is in my mind is like this.

You user registers and is added to a default group A.
He posts 25 times and is promoted to another group B.
The permission set for group B is such that user can read but cant post.
You create a third group C viz requestiable and has permissions to  post.
Those who wants to post further, request that group and you add them.

Yes. Thank you!  I just came along to tell I figured it out & mark as solved.
Sorry for this, never had a software with post count based group as a standard entry group you can't delete.

Really need to congratulate smf and all who develop and support it. It doesnt have all features I will need in the future so I'll have to move to IPB later,  but to start up my new forum I couldn't find any better. It beats all that is out there, especialy with the paid subscription feature.
Maybe I can get our coder to write the modules we would need and make available to your mod section.  You never know! I'm all for it to support a great software like this, available to everyone for free.

Thank you for your time.

You alwalys wellcome. And no one knows, may be upcoming versions of smf prove to be so perfect that you will not want to move your forum. Anyway best of luck. :-)
