Lost member list/spam protection and reporting

I have smf  1.1.13. I've lost my members names under admin>members, and also any spam protection/reporting that used to show up on this page. I can see a members list under the "members" tab in the nav bar, but this is not the same. Can anyone tell me why I've lost the members/spam protection, and how to retrieve it. I don't recall at this moment the type of spam protection I had, but I got it thru the smf site. Thanks. I am very untechnical, I would deeply appreciate detailed help.

1.1.13?!?!

You know that version's kinda centuries out of date, right?

Upgrading to v1.1.16 is STRONGLY recommended.

To do that, you'll need this:

Especially the "BACKUP!!!" bit.

That might even sort your problems out, too.

OK, thanks. I upgraded to 1.1.16 and the members names did reappear in admin>members. However, Stop Spammer is still missing. I checked the smf mod site, and saw that Stop Spammer is not listed as working with 1.1.16, which is a complete bummer. But it was missing along with the member names before I upgraded from 1.1.13. So, now I dont' know if I can expect Stop Spammer to work with the new upgrade. Can anyone help answer this, and if it will work, how to get it working? Thanks.

There're oodles of anti-spam mods on the mod site. Have a look through these:

Check-out the support topics, for them, to see what comments/hassles people have had and you can try one/some of those.

thanks for the effort, but most of the spam protection still is not specified to work with 1.1.16. The few that are do not operate the same way as Stop Spammer and don't appear as effective. So, I can't say your advice has been helpful and I'm stuck without spam protection. Maybe upgrades should not be posted until mods are in place?

The above mod does work on 1.1.16

I use Bad Behaviour on both my forums.

I believe the results ( as shown) speak for themselves.

Bad Behavior has blocked 178 access attempts in the last 7 days.

However if you still prefer the Stop Spammer mod have a look at the Mod Emulate link in my signature.

I would only prefer Stop Spammer because I've been using it and its been working. I've got version 2.3.9 installed with the smf 1.1.16. It is showing up on my members page but has not stopped spammers in the past day. Does anyone know if it will be working with 1.1.16?


I don't know what you mean by "have a look at the Mod Emulate link in my signature" or where to look. Is this a way to get Stop Spammer working?

If I can't get it going i'll try BAd Behavior. Thanks for the tip.

I'm feeling dumb and frustrated. I'm in my package manager, trying to upload Bad_Behavior_1.5.9 which is on my desktop. When I hit 'choose file' in the package manager, I am unable to upload the entire file; the choose button is grayed out. Only if I select items inside the file, like xxx.php, does the "choose" option become available.

OK, sounds great. I'm sorry but I don't know how to send a PM - don't see any hints on the page. You will also need the Bad Behavior 1.5.9 folder on your desktop to simulate the problem (?)

You should see a link which says send pm.

May I ask which language is your main one?

OK the mod is now installed for you.

For the remainder as I said in pm you will find what you need in the mods support topic.

I would also suggest you start to empty the error log.

I got a PM email, but there was no content, it just said "This is a pm." Is there something to do with the remainder?

The error log was on the left hand side in your admin area.

I haven't used 1.1 for a couple years now but somehow I found it.
