Well, for the sake of argument, let's say you want a group to be able to edit their own topics and those of others. Like a Wiki or something... ;)

To create such a situation you could create a another group and put all the users inthere, ór you could just grant the permission on the 1 board locally for the groups they're allready a member of.

That way you can focus on the permissions-structure for that one board, and keep the number of groups to a minimum, without of having to think twice about granting a group permissions in another part of the forum?

On my board, for example, guests are not able to view attachments.  However on one of the board 'Items For sale', I do want them to see the photos of items for sale.

I had to create 'local' permissions for that particular board  with the permission to view attachments by the guests and hopefully buy the stuff...

"Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do." but when you set the attachments permission, you set up for a general use.
if you give local permission to a board, how can you set that guests to download attachments?

If boards have Global rights, yes.

By going to the admin Panel -> Edit Permissions -> Permissions by Board -> Click board you want changed -> Edit rights per group.
