New to SMF, sort of thrust into administration/repair...help?

So, a friend of sorts has an SMF 1.1 forum, and it somehow got hosed...looks mostly like index.php was what got borked the most, but I don't know to what extent things were tweaked.

I reinstalled a fresh copy of 1.1.16 over top their existing files, and this got things back up and running (once I re-copied over their original custom theme and Settings.php).

Ok, so now at least their forum is back up, but the problem is their custom pages.  They appear to be using pagemod, and it does show up in the administration panel, but doesn't appear to be working...it simply dumps you back at the home page.  You can see this behavior @ hxxp:thetelemarketingforum.com [nonactive] (sorry, not allow to post links because I'm new)

Just click "Your Virtual Office" in the menu at the top.  You can see it adds the custom page to the URL, but just dumps you at the home page.  I wanted to go look at the pages in the admin panel too, but unfortunately clicking "Page Management" there drops you to the front page as well :-(

Sorry if this is a stupid question...I'm just new to this, and I'm not sure how to go about reinstalling pagemod (or if this is what I should even do).  I don't see a clear readme with install instructions for that mod, so I'm a bit lost.

Thanks in advance for any help!

First off, welcome to SMF! There are no stupid questions here (except maybe in Chit Chat)! :)

Go to Admin > Packages

My gut reaction is that even though those mods say [Uninstall], by overwriting the site's files, I don't think that makes previously installed mods as uninstalled. What happens if you click Uninstall for Page Management? I imagine it will fail almost all of the checks, but I'm hoping you'll get an Apply Mod link as a result. It's worth a shot anyway. :)

Good idea!  Ok, so this is what I get when I try to re-apply:

I tried a few different permutations of permissions on the file it mentions, but no dice.  What do I need to do there to make it install properly?

On the download page for that mod, you'll see a Parse button. Select 1.1.11 from the Manual Install Instructions for SMF menu (I know you're on 1.1.16) and click Parse. Then back on your site, click Install Now. Using FTP, grab a copy of two things.
Themes/default/index.template.php
Themes/express_1111/index.template.php
See what edits weren't made and make those on:
Themes/default/index.template.php
Make similar ones to:
Themes/express_1111/index.template.php
Have any other themes installed? If so, rinse and repeat for each index.template.php file (although I'm pretty sure you're only using the one).

See how that goes. :)
