Can't download packages on localhost

Hello!

I'm trying to test out the Vanilla converter on my localhost, but I'm having trouble downloading the package. Whether I download it first to my desktop and upload or download from URL, I get this error:

QuoteAlthough the package was downloaded to the server it appears to be empty. Please check the Packages directory, and the "temp" sub-directory are both writable. If you continue to experience this problem you should try extracting the package on your PC and uploading the extracted files into a subdirectory in your Packages directory and try again. For example, if the package was called shout.tar.gz you should:
1) Download the package to your local PC and extract it into files.
2) Using an FTP client create a new directory in your "Packages" folder, in this example you may call it "shout".
3) Upload all the files from the extracted package to this directory.
4) Go back to the package manager browse page and the package will be automatically found by SMF.

This is the URL I'm entering, I can't seem to find a more direct link: http://download.simplemachines.org/index.php?thanks;filename=smf_2-0_vanilla_converter.tar.gz

I've also just tried extracting the files and putting them in a folder called "vanillaconverter" in the Packages directory, but the package manager doesn't see them.

All the directories are writable according to the package manager's file permissions section (except that it doesn't show any subfolders under Packages).

There's also reference to a "temp" folder that doesn't seem to exist. I manually created one in the Packages directory, but it didn't seem to have any effect.

I was able to successfully download another random mod from the third-party mod site package server, and it showed up in the package manager, but I can't find any converters on the server. If anyone has the URL to a different package server that has the converters on it, I could probably get it that way.

Does anyone have any ideas what's wrong? Thanks in advance for your time!

You need to extract the files and save those files in the root of your forum where SSI.php and the Settings.php and Settings_bak.php files are...

Ah, thanks. I thought converters were a package, missed the bit that said where to extract it to.
