I love smf software because im not a tech geek, and it is the easiest ive found for a novice to customize, at least it is for me.
However, ive host hopped for weeks, and find that no matter where im hosted the forum drags, and many times i get an error that smf cant access the database.  Ive come to the conclusion that this is an SMF issue, and ive been blaming the wrong people, ie; the paid hosters of this smf software. ive also spoken with users of other software, such as phpbb VBulletin, etc. that are not having these issues on the same forum hosts that ive used
What is up with this??  is smf going down???  or is it just your servers having issues with other sites??

I am serious about this, im tired of building smf boards, and then having to move every week to find a suitable host that will work with SMF software.

Considering that this site is nothing to do with your site, it is not "our servers".

It could be misconfiguration, it coud be that you're pushing cheap hosting too hard; I run multiple forums on a VPS and I have never seen that issue on my sites in nearly seven years of running.

:-\  i wasnt trying to solicit a rude response, just trying to get my issues worked out.  just for your info, it does the same thing on at least 3 paid hosting sites ive used.  And i get the same responses when im simply trying to down load a mod from the mod site, says the smf servers are overloaded and try later.  Which has absolutely nothing to do with anything except smf server issues.

You didn't actually say you were trying to get mods from the site here. Yes, the (multiple) servers here are under stress, but there's no reason why you couldn't just download mods from the mod site to your computer rather than just downloading it directly from inside the package manager.

I see two issues being raised here:
1. You are having issues with finding a host that can handle SMF software.
2. You are having issues downloading mods from here.
These are obviously different issues.
Let's start with #2. What mods are you trying to download? What time of day?
And to #1, which hosts have you tried out?

(Actually, I'm not so sure that they're separate issues. Seems to me the issue of 1 could be caused by assuming the host can't handle the consequences of 2. Of course, it never hurts to actually *talk* to the host in case they have problems too.)

Ah yeah...guess it's entirely possible he is trying directly from Package Manager. :) Without details, hard to tell. ;)

Well, that's sort of what he said, but it really wasn't clear from the first post that that was what was going on - and yes, there are server issues here. I've even seen the hard-cap 'server load cutout' message today, as well as regular slow-downs and unreadreplies being disabled through the load balancing options.
