Pruning old topics/posts is failing

Running SMF 2.0.9 with stock theme.

I am having a problem pruning old topics/posts.

I have a board with about 1700 topics and 40,000 posts.  When I try to remove all topics older than 180 days, SMF just hangs (I let it go for an hour), and eventually it goes to a completely blank screen. When I check the topics it removed, it got most of them, but not totally accurate. Then when I run "Recount all forum totals and statistics", it brings them all back.

I even tried doing 2000 days, thinking maybe it was choking on so many. Again, it seemed to remove about the right number of topics, but run "Recount all forum totals and statistics", it brings all 1700 back.

A couple of times, I got an error something like "cannot verify referring URL. go back and try again", but now I cannot reproduce that.

See screenshot for the settings just before I hit "Remove Now".

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

When you get that blank screen, most likely there's a PHP error behind. Can you check your server logs?
Also, who is your host?

My host is SimpleHelix on a shared server with cPanel.

What is the best way to find the relevant logs?

margarett

In cPanel. Or ask your host if you struggle to find them ;)

OK, I was finally able to find the error logs, and I think I may have found the problem on this line:

Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 72 bytes) in /real_path/mySMFforumdomain.com/Sources/RemoveTopic.php on line 471

What exactly should I ask for from my host (if they will even consider it)?

You have 128M of available memory. It's *really* strange that you get a memory exhausted error...

Which mods do you have installed?
