Absolute newbie here desperately needing advice

Hi - I have virtually NO idea about any of this, but I want and need to put a forum on a website I am developing. I've come across this site and have a couple of questions, I'm not even entirely sure where to put them, so came to this thread by default. Sorry if this is in error.

1) what is the difference between this and phpBB?

2) I will be using iWeb to create my site - will there be problems?

3) I take it I upload this package to my host's servers?

1) It's a different software. Both do the same job, just in difference ways. Sort of like the difference between a Ford and Toyota - both are cars, some have features you'll like, some not so much.

2) What's iWeb?

3) Yes, you will. Installing SMF and SMF Requirements would be worth reading first.

I get the sense that this is a friendlier place than the phpBB boards....comments? That's kind of important to me actually. I got a pretty snitty answer to a question I posted there.

Depends on the question, really. There are some real hard-asses here (I'm one of them), but mostly it's because people seem to view this place as full of people just waiting to bend over backwards to fulfil every little whim that people have, regardless of whether it's a good idea or not, and do it all for free, just because they snap their fingers.

Generally if you're pleasant and asking a question that you've thought a bit about, you can expect the same in return We were all new to this once, it's all good.

Welcome to SMF canuck sailor.  Someone once told me that the only stupid questions are the one's that aren't asked, but that didn't make sense to me, because that is not a question at all in that case... lol, if you fail to ask a question, to me, than you only hinder yourself.
