Is it possible to move users/posts to a new forum?

I'm really not very experienced in this field.  I had/have an old forum with 11,000+ members and 35,000 posts (lots of spam accounts).  My host disabled MySQL 4.0 and rather than trying to move to a new database version I decided it was time to move to a new forum anyway.  Activity had dropped and the forum itself was a mess.  Then a major announcement happened today which makes my forum relevant again and I've already built the new site.

Is it possible (and easy) to just import the posts and users?  If anything, just the users?  The old forum ran 1.1.18 and my new one is on 2.0.4.

Any info would be appreciated.

Easy? No, not really. The databases for the two versions aren't, entirely, compatible.

Can you upgrade the old forum to v2?

I'm a big noob when it comes to this part.  I tried to go create a new database with 5.0 then import the exported file from my old database.  It says there is an upload limit of 49MB but my forum's database is 53mb.  No matter what I did it would just sit there after I clicked "go".

Get a free copy of MySQLdumper and back up your existing database using that. It creates a serial text file of mysql instructions which can simply be executed to populate/restore your new database, table by table, column by column.
