No confirmation Emails

More and more I am hearing from people that they are not getting a confirmation email when they sign up for the forums and I have to end up activating them.  I am not sure if the email is going to their SPAM folder or they are actually not getting the email at all.  When I ask them they say they do not see it in their SPAM.  Is this a known issue lately or is there something potentially wring with my forum, or something wrong with my potential users?

Thanks!

I bet a lot of them are going to the recipient's Spam folder. I have first hand knowledge of this happening on a forum I help out with. Users aren't always really good at checking this out.

I really hope that is the case.  I signed up for my own forum about 5 minutes ago with an alternate email address and I have not seen a confirmation email come through yet to my Inbox or my SPAM folder.

I have not changed any settings on my forum for quite some time other than the standard updates.  Starting to make me nervous.  :(

It very well could be some other issue.

What I do (and recommend to everyone) is to install a test forum in another directory on your account. I use that to test new mods or as a sanity check. You might want to install a test forum and if it sends out registration emails then you have isolated the issue to your active forum.

Hmmm, the problem is I have no clue how to do all of that.  My best bet is to close my eyes and start praying that an email shows up.  :)

You didn't install your forum in the first place?

In that case, let's see what other ideas come this way. I'm not the be-all end-all expert by any means.

I installed it, 5 years ago and I cannot remember how I did it.  I am sure I could figure it out again if it was a forum from scratch.  Of course now I work 80+ hours a week and my time is too divided.

I also emailed the hosting company who have been awesome with SMF forums in the past just to confirm it is not an error on their end.  Still no email in my inbox...

Not sure what this could mean. You mean you sent an email from (I presume) your personal email account and you didn't get a reply from them?

Not sure that isolates the problem.

You are the Admin right? If you execute a Report to Moderator on a random post, you should get an email. Does that even happen?

tennis4you

I am the Admin.  And I emailed the web hosting company from my personal email account to see if they could be helpful.

Good call on the "Report to Moderator".  I did that 5 minutes ago and I have not yet seen an email come through to the Inbox or SPAM folder.  Uh oh...

OK. You should have received an email ASAP. Since that didn't happen, I'd say it is a problem more than likely with the host. I've had that happen once or twice before.

Unless the Super Brains here have any other ideas, I'd keep at your host with a problem ticket.
Good Luck!

Will do, thanks!

And funny enough, I have not gotten a confirmation from them that I created a ticket on the account.  Not liking this at all!

Hi,

I get the same problem... but only for accounts vom hxxp:web.de [nonactive]
I try to register an email address from my company and this works... I got a cofirmation mail.
We try several email addresses from hxxp:web.de [nonactive] and there is no confirmation mail... we control the spam folder too  ;)

Any hints?

JMagnat

Nobody knows about this problem?????

Im getting the same issue now. I noticed almost all registered members are getting it sent to spam. And im no longer recieving emails of new members.

I think that email is only sent to me once the member clicks on the link in the registration email. Where can i check to ensure all emails are being sent properly in the Admin panel.
