hi, I have been trying for quite sometime now to update my forum from 1.1.15 to 1.1.16 to get it to 1.1.18
but i keep getting the error message
"An Error Has Occurred!
The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF. "
I'm getting the package directly from the site how do i fix this?
and is there a way to migrate all my forum posts from version1.1.15 to version2 ? if so what the best way to go about it?

I honestly havent changed the forum much in 5 years, and having some difficulty remembering how to do it.. I imagine 4200 members or so whould be pissed if i lost all their posts. -Lono

the spam is getting intollerable... will the upgrades help or is there a better package something i can use to fix this problem?

MrPhil

The 1.1.15 to 16 upgrade package is known to be defective. They keep replacing it but it keeps getting corrupted again (obviously a bad build system). Anyway, somewhere if you look around you'll find instructions on how to unpack and rebuild this package so that it works.

If you want to jump to 2.0.4, there are migration instructions. It's basically a fresh install of 2.0.4 and migrate (upgrade) your database (I don't know if that handles the attachments, too -- read the instructions). Then you can start searching for mods and themes for your new version (SMF 1 themes, and many SMF 1 mods, won't work).

If you want to stick with the v1.1.1x branch, as I have, you'll need to jump through a few hoops, I'm afraid.

To get to 1.1.16, get this:

http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/downloads/smf_patch_1.0.22_1.1.16.tar.gz

Dearchive it, on your computer (Beware, the files aren't in a directory) and rearchive it as a zip file.

Then, you should be able to use that as you'd use a normal mod and install it via Package manager.

Apologies for the kerfuffle. That REALLY should have been fixed, by now, and I have no idea, at all, as to why it hasn't been.

mr phil there is no build system that is reused often to rebuild the patch packages, they are built once and only once at time of release.

Are you saying that it can't be corrected?

How odd.

no it can be corrected and an attempt was made before, it just has to be done by a *person* if someone that can attempt a fix is told there is a problem.

kat

That problem's been known for ages. As I understood it, Norv had corrected it.

Oh, well. I don't s'pose many will need it, now, anyway...

Illori

if it is still causing problems it should be looked into.
