Lately we had to switch our IT-host, and reinstall SMF to cpanel from the backup-file. After it was done, our Forum didnt work at first place, lots of error-messages like: "Function required_once, ***.php on line *** " - i edited it all manually and made the pages work again 1by1!  :) One thing is left non-working though, where i have no clue what to do: "Boards" in Admin-panel, along with spider-log and the mod "Current Activity" say "unable to load manageboards.php" resp. "managesearch.php" - i checked, that the files are in place in cpanel; also i downloaded them and had a look with notepad++ but i couldnt notice anything wrong. Need some hints please - what can be the source of the error..?

What is repair_settings.php?

What *EXACTLY* did you do? Or what did you change?

Well, when trying to load our pages, error-messages appeared filling the screen, saying like "error in settings.php line643" or wherever... tbh, there was so much to do with the edits in short time, and i was sick, so i cant exactly remember each and every editing detailed - but it worked, in the end. Some messages i remember, refered to "bad behavior". "require_once" fail on a particular line, which i simply edited out.
But the failure to load the board- and search-templates where not caused by what i did, if u'ld mean that, but there from the time on SMF was set up on the new cpanel. Again - here i dont know what i could change or edit out, the error gives me no clue what could be wrong in the resp. PHP, and all looks like it should at first sight - at least for my untrained eyes.

Use repair_settings as I've told you. It should fix the theme paths for you. And he would fix the other paths as well, but now I'm not sure anymore. Do backup, though.

We tried repair_settings out, made sure it shows the same paths as the admin-panel in our forum... but it didnt help!  :( SMF cant load "manageboards.php" and "managesearch.php" it appears - but the're in the same directory, installed sametime from same backup-source as the other, working templates?!  :-\

Kindred

it would seem that your directories or urls settings are still pointing to the OLD site/server setup.

Do You mean pointing to the old Provider..? If so - where would the old/false URLs be included, and how come its only affecting the mentioned PHPs?! In which place could we fix this..?  ???

kat

Just an "Off the wall" suggestion...

Have you been to Admin>Themes and clicked on "Attempt to rest all themes"?

backntwn

Uhm.. just as i cant catch the Cohesion - could You please gimme a Hint of the possible good for doing so; and are there any risks?!  :-\

kat

Risks: 0 (Zero). All that does is attempt to correct the paths to the themes. ALL themes, if it can.

My thinking:

On a normal SMF installation, a custom theme looks for it's files, in the custom theme's directory. If it can't find the file that it's looking for, it looks in the SMF default theme's directory, to use the corresponding file, from there.

If the theme's path is wrong, I'm guessing that it might be looking in the default theme's directory on the old server and, of course, not finding it.

It IS a bit off-the-wall. But, you never know... ;)

K, i pushed that button now... :) - and what happened was.. xcactly nothing! No error-messages, all themes in place... so i assume, thats not the key to this weird problem either?!?

kat

Meh. Apparently not. It was worth trying, though, if only to rule that out.

This sure is a weird one.

The best that I can think of, now, is for me to have a look at your forum.

Before you send me anything, please read this:

Ideally, of course, I'd need both admin access to your forum and the FTP login details.

If you're OK, with that, send me a PM with a URL, admin login details and FTP login details. I can have a good look around, then.

It won't be until tomorrow, though, coz it's getting close to bed time, here. Got to run the old guy down the road, to hospital, too, before I do anything else.

So, if you're up for it, PM me those details and I'll have a look, as soon as I can, tomorrow.

How's that sound/read?
