I run a play by post RPG forum and in the last month or so have had issues with New players trying to register.  It keeps coming up with the following message when they hit the register button.

The user TestAccount with Email [email protected] (IP hxxp:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx [nonactive]) is a Spam, please contact forum administrator.

No another admin and I have been running a few tests and even we have been getting this error message.

We were running version 2.0.6 an have just updated to version 2.0.7 but are still experiencing the same issues.

In our testing we have discovered that the message only comes up when people try to register with capitalisation in the user name. i.e. testaccount registers fine, TestAccount gets the error message.

We have had people being able to register with capitalisation in the past so does anyone have any ideas what might be happening?

What anti spam mods are you running? That error is not part of the default smf installation.

I have the stop spammer mod installed but that's it.  I tried turning it off to see if that made any difference but it didn't.

I guess I can try uninstalling it to see if that makes any difference.

Yeah, that error does seem like a stop spammer message

Well I have uninstalled the Stop Spammer mod and its still coming up with the same error.

Have just double checked and there was a stopspammer check box still ticked.  I unchecked that and the registration went through fine.

Thank you for your help.

Now I just have to keep an eye out for spammers if they get through the regular capture and question check :D
